Report: Foreign Trade Statistics of Turkey, February 2013

Data pertaining to foreign trade performance of Turkey were released by Turkish Statistical Institute as below;

Exports increased by 5.8% in February

According to the provisional data, produced with the cooperation of the Turkish Statistical Institute and the Ministry of Customs and Trade, in February 2013; exports increased by 5.8% and reached to 12 435 Million Dollars and imports increased by 9% and reached to 19 394 Million Dollars compared with February 2012.

At the same month, foreign trade deficit increased from 6 039 Million Dollars to 6 958 Million Dollars.

Calendar adjusted exports and imports increased by 9.0% and 13.1% compared with February 2012. Seasonally and calendar adjusted exports and imports increased by 6.2% and 6.5% compared with previous month.

In February 2013 exports coverage imports was 64.1% while it was 66% in February 2012.

Exports to the European Union increased by 3.5% in February 2013

As compared with the same month of the previous year, exports to the EU were 5 095 Million Dollars, increased by 3.5%. The proportion of the EU countries was 41% in February 2013 while it was 41.9% in February 2012.

The main partner for exports was Germany

In February 2013, the main partner country for exports was Germany with 1 089 Million Dollars and increased by 1.8%. For exports, Germany was followed by Iraq (851 Million Dollars), the United Kingdom (682 Million Dollars) and the United Arab Emirates (606 Million Dollars).
The top country for imports was Russia

For February 2013, the top country for Turkey’s imports was Russian Federation (2 015 Million Dollars), records for imports range from Germany (1 876 Million Dollars), China (1 829 Million Dollars) and the United States of America (954 Million Dollars).

Vehicles other than railway are forfront in exports according to chapters

For February 2013, “vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling-stock, parts thereof” has by far the highest value exported at 1 442 Million Dollars and then, “boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances, parts thereof” (998 Million Dollars), “iron and steel” (919 Million Dollars) and “precious stones and metals, pearls and articles thereof” (837 Million Dollars).

At the same period, the top categories for imports were “mineral fuels and oils” (4 512 Million Dollars) and then “boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances” (2 166 Million Dollars), “iron and steel” (1 400 Million Dollars) and “electrical machineries and equipments” (1 332 Million Dollars).
