Sabiha Gökçen airport of Istanbul increases capacity to serve more passengers

Work is being carried out to increase passenger and aircraft capacity at Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport. On the one hand, the construction of the second runway continues and on the other hand, expansion projects are being carried out within the terminal building.

As part of the expansion efforts to increase capacity, the construction of the new check-in counter sections for ticket procedure of passengers has begun. With the new counter area projected next to the A counter in the Terminal, the passenger capacity will be increased further. The construction of is planned to be finished for international passengers by April 2020.

Sabiha Gökçen Airport was actually planned to supplement the main airport of Istanbul (Atatürk Airport) but in time it was found to be so useful and practical that it carries a lot of weight now as far as air transportation of Istanbul is concerned.

Sabiha Gökçen Airport is expected to contribute an amount of TL 44 billion to Turkey’s income corresponding to 1.5 percent of Turkey’s GDP in 2023 also creating 75 thousand jobs.

Most passengers think the place is very friendly and quite easy to use and again many people prefer to use SAW if possible.
