Statement from Trump’s lawyer: An attack on freedom of expression

John Lauro, one of the defense lawyers of former US President Donald Trump, who has been charged as part of investigations conducted in the US for allegedly trying to change the results of the 2020 presidential election in his favor and will appear before a judge today, claimed that the charges were an “attack on freedom of expression and political speech”.

Lauro argued that it was “absurd” for Prosecutor Jack Smith, who was appointed as a special authorized expert on Trump investigations, to request a speedy trial process on the case, noting that Trump should be given time to evaluate all the evidence and understand what the facts were.

Noting that the treatment of Trump is unfair, Lauro said that they would win the case.

Trump is expected to appear before a judge today.

Trump said, “I have never seen so much support on any issue before.” He also noted that corruption, scandal and failure had prevailed in the United States for the past three years, and argued that his country was going backwards.
