Stoltenberg: Sweden has fulfilled all conditions – Turkey’s EU membership not in memorandum
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that all the conditions contained in the Trilateral Memorandum signed between Turkey, Finland and Sweden at the Madrid Summit were fulfilled by Sweden. Stoltenberg also stated that he supported Turkey’s EU membership, but the EU condition was not included in the trilateral memorandum
Referring to the statement of AKP President Recep Tayyip Erdogan “Pave the way for Turkey in the EU, and then we will pave the way for Sweden,” Stoltenberg said that there was no EU requirement in the Trilateral Memorandum signed at the Madrid Summit.
Stressing that support for Ukraine would be increased at the NATO Summit and decisions would be made on Ukraine, Stoltenberg said, “We will bring Ukraine closer to NATO.” Stoltenberg stated that NATO would improve its political ties with Ukraine, “President Zelenskiy will join us at the opening meeting of the new NATO-Ukraine Council. The allies will discuss the process leading to Ukraine’s NATO membership tomorrow.”
