SYRIANS BURNING TURKISH FLAGS

The meeting of Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu with his Syrian counterpart and his statement saying “We need to somehow reconcile the opposition and the regime in Syria” caused outrage in Syrian opposition groups (consisting of many jihadists). Minister Cavusoglu used the expression ‘Assad’ instead of ‘ESSED’, which the government has been using (to defame) since relations with the Damascus administration deteriorated.

Anti-Turkey protests have been held in several cities in northern Syria controlled by the Turkish-backed Free Syrian Army (FSA). The demonstrators chanted ”No compromise, no surrender, we will overthrow the regime (Assad regime)”.

Videos of groups chanting slogans against Turkey in the cities of Jarablus and Azaz were shared on social media platforms. Protesters set Turkish flags on fire next to FSA flags. Images of the Turkish flag being burned drew a reaction on social media.
