Turkey: 2-3 electricity distribution regions to be privatized

enerjiTurkey’s Privatization Administration deputy president said Tuesday that they hoped that at least 2-3 electricity distribution regions would be privatized as of the end of the year.

Delivering a speech at a conference on investments, competition, risks and expectations in energy markets, Deputy President Ahmet Aksu said that important legal arrangements had been done to improve productivity and competition in the energy sector.

Aksu said that they transferred 9 distribution regions to the private sector so far and gained around 5 billion U.S. dollars of income from those transfers.

“We hope that we would transfer also 2 or 3 electricity distribution regions as of the end of the year,” he said.

Aksu said that a new tender was opened for Baskent Natural Gas A.S. and the bidding deadline for the tender regarding the privatization of %80 of the shares in Baskent Natural Gas A.S. has been rescheduled as January 27, 2012.
