Turkey among 3 countries to provide the least support to its people during pandemic

GOVERNEMNT SUPPORT DURING PANDEMIC

According to the IMF report, Turkey is in the group of countries that has provided the least support to its people compared to the national income of countries. Turkey, along with Mexico and Albania, is one of the 3 countries that have provided the least support for its people.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has published a pandemic report comparing the effects of the corona outbreak and the extent to which countries have provided financial support to the public. The report was given as the ratio of how much of the countries ‘ Gross Domestic Product (GDP) they allocated to pandemic spending.

According to the GDP-pandemic expenditure ratio, countries were divided into 5 groups (10 percent and above, 7.5-10 percent,5-7.5 percent, 2.5-5 percent and 2.5 and below). Turkey was in the group of countries with the least support for its people with 2.5 and six percent.

TURKEY MOVES TO FULL CLOSURE

DUVAR (newspaper) has reported following: By a presidential decision, Turkey is moving to full closure, starting on April 29 and ending on May 17. But especially small trades are either on the verge of bankruptcy due to the bans or are bankrupt, while service sector workers who work with daily wages and a significant proportion of uninsured are also abandoned to their fate. Taxi drivers have also fallen into a severe subsistence shortage due to the bans, because they are also uninsured and government support goes to license plate holders.

According to the report prepared by DISK-AR based on statistical data, Turkey is among the 3 countries that support its people at least. According to the report;

Turkey has allocateed cash support to the fight against Covid-19 (including health spending) at the level of only 1.1 percent of its national income. On the other hand, Turkey’s share in total cash expenditures and supports is one over thousand, in the world scale.

The report notes that support packages and programs aimed at the economic and social consequences of Covid-19 consist of two main components. The first component directly supports an increase in government spending and tax revenues towards its citizens while spending cash and a decrease in) the second component of businesses, companies and banks (capital) consists of various financial and ease their financial support.
