It was stated that the two countries that increased the number of tourists the most in the European travel Sunday this year were Turkey and Greece. It was also announced that Turkey and Greece had left behind the figures of 2019 in high summer season (July-August).

According to the figures announced by the air ticket data company ForwardKeys, Turkey rose by 9 percent in the high season compared to 2019 and Greece by 2 percent. In contrast, Slovenia fell by 7 percent, Iceland by 8 percent and Portugal by 10 percent.

The report said, “If the aviation sector had responded to the travel demand at the end of spring and early summer, European destinations could have received more visitors”, adding “5 percent passenger loss had been recorded due to the lack of personnel in airline companies and airports.”

ISTANBUL CHAMPION CITY

According to the ForwardKeys report, Istanbul showed the best performance in flight arrivals with an increase of 2 percent, Athens (Greece) recorded a decrease of 7 percent, Reykjavik (Iceland) and Porto (Portugal) recorded a decrease of 8 percent and Malaga (Portugal) recorded a decrease of 13 percent.

WHY IS TURKEY THE LEADER?

ForwardKeys made the following assessment about the growth experienced by Turkey: The locomotive of Turkey’s strong performance is the continued depreciation of the Turkish Lira and the fact that Russians who cannot fly directly to most European countries due to the Ukrainian war can only go to Turkey.

SPAIN IS 23 PERCENT BEHIND 2019

According to the data, compared to the high season period of 2019, it is seen that the UK is 33 percent behind. On the other hand, Spain is 23 percent behind, Italy 32 percent, France 35 percent and Germany is 39 percent behind.
