FINLAND NATO MEMBERSHIP

According to sources who spoke to the US-based news agency Bloomberg, Turkey may approve Finland’s NATO membership next month.

The sources, who spoke to Bloomberg on condition of anonymity, said Erdogan was ‘close to concluding that the security steps taken by Finland were sufficient’.

Yesterday, Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin said, “We have taken care of the concerns expressed by Turkey. It is up to two countries, Turkey and Hungary, to approve it. We expect them to approve our applications as soon as possible.”

What had happened?

Sweden and Finland had applied for NATO membership after the Russian invasion of Ukraine. In order for the two countries to join NATO, all members, including Turkey, must approve it in the legislative body. All countries except Turkey and Hungary have approved the memberships.
