Turkey triples the world in food inflation
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has announced that global food inflation retreated from a record high in April. However, due to the rapidly rising food prices in Turkey, difference with the rest of the world is increasingly opening.
According to FAO data, global food inflation decreased from 33.94 to 29.81 percent in April.
According to data released yesterday by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT) on the other hand, food inflation in Turkey increased from 70.33 percent to 89.1 percent last month.
The 59-point point difference between Turkey and the world is also a record.
Inflation rose rapidly after President Tayyip Erdogan forced the Central Bank to cut rates in September last year, and the TL lost more than 45 percent in value.
