Turkish Minister of Treasury and Finance, Mehmet Şimşek, responded to resignation rumors via his social media account, stating, “I have not resigned. The circulating scenarios are not true.” He emphasized that the economic management team was working with a strong sense of responsibility and that they are beginning to see the results they aimed for.

He further clarified, “It seems that the official statements were not enough, so let me write it here too! I have not resigned. The circulating scenarios are not true. The economic management is working as a team. We are fully aware of the great and challenging responsibilities we have taken on. With this awareness, we are working every day to achieve better results. Our economic stability and reform program are successfully progressing, and we are starting to achieve the results we aimed for.”

Şimşek highlighted several positive developments: “The current account deficit has narrowed, the Central Bank’s reserves have improved, the transition out of KKM (Currency Protected Deposits) is continuing rapidly, and we are taking measures to address the budgetary impacts of EYT (early retirement law) and the earthquake, improving the budget balance. Most importantly, we are making strong progress toward our goal of price stability, and a noticeable and permanent decrease in inflation has begun.”

He concluded by stressing that they had no other mission than to serve the nation and that they would not allow fabricated stories to impact the economy or markets. He expressed confidence in President Erdoğan’s support and urged the public not to be misled by these rumors.
