Turkey’s Finance Minister shares statement about interest rate and application to IMF

Treasury and Finance Minister Nureddin Nebati said it was not known whether the opposition would raise interest rates and apply to the IMF. Nebati suggested that an interest rate hike would lead to the closure of factories, damage to the financial system, and then unemployment.
Minister of Treasury and Finance Nureddin Nebati met with members of the Denizli Branch of the Independent Industrialists’ and Businessmen’s Association (MUSIAD) at Denizli Göveçlik Cultural Center at Iftar (dinner).
In his speech, Nebati suggested that it was not known whether the opposition would increase interest rates or apply to the IMF, and said,
“Do you share among yourselves the idea that by making calculations to raise interest rates behind secret doors, it will actually lead to the closure of factories on the one hand, the decaying of the financial system on the other and then unemployment on the other? We have done what we claimed for 21 years under the leadership of Mr. President.”
HE ASKED FOR VOTES IN ELECTIONS
Nebati said, “May 14 is a day when economic achievements are achieved on the one hand, and on the other hand, the defense industry will put forward instruments and achievements that will compete with the whole world.”
Noting that all citizens know very well what to do on May 14, Nebati said, “May 14 will be the turning point of a process in which the truth, success and the Turkish Economic Model are made deeply functional economically.”
