Recently, the SAT-2 serotype disease seen in many provinces such as Diyarbakır, Siirt, Eskişehir, Yozgat had caused anxiety. The alum disease, which is stated to have a very high transmission rate, is being observed for the first time in Turkey. Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Vahit Kirişci said, “The disease causes economic losses if the necessary measures are not taken.” Minister Kirişci, who touched upon the vaccination studies after the disease, gave an important message about the disease by referring to the end of the month.

Action was taken after the alum disease, which was seen for the first time in Turkey, and 4.5 million animals were vaccinated. Minister Kirişci explained that there was a demand for vaccines from neighboring countries. Minister Kirişci who gave a date for the damping down of the disease, also gave a message about when the bans that caused economic losses would end after the disease.

“THE TRANSMISSION RATE IS QUITE HIGH, IT CAUSES ECONOMIC LOSSES”

Minister Kirişci visited the Directorate of the ALUM Institute, where vaccines against the SAT-2 serotype alum disease specific to fattening animals are produced, seen for the first time in Turkey. Minister Kirişci stated that alum disease is a viral disease seen in animals with double nails such as cattle, sheep and goats, and said, “The transmission rate is quite high. The disease causes economic losses if the necessary measures are not taken. We need to fight the disease that causes these losses in an absolute way.”

“AROUND 12 MILLION  VACCINES WILL BE PRODUCED”

Emphasizing that the SAT-2 serotype was diagnosed on February 3 and the vaccine was produced quickly, Kirişci said: “In case of entering our country, vaccine production was started urgently by our ALUM Institute and the SAT-2 vaccine was produced in a short period of 37 days. SAT-2 was first seen in a border province and we prevented the spread of the disease in our country by carrying out our intervention with our own vaccines. I would like to share with the public that all of our animal existence will be vaccinated. The production of vaccines continues here constantly. As of this evening, we will have produced about 12 million vaccines and we have shipped 9.5 million of them to the field. 9.5 Million vaccines shipped to the field are made to our animals in need. The number of vaccinated animals will have reached 4.5 million this evening. Vaccine production, shipment and vaccination studies to combat the SAT-2 serotype will continue until all animals that need to be vaccinated are completed, and bans will also continue.”
