Turkey’s Minister of National Defense: “Information has arrived that stray mines may be in the area”

National Defense Minister Hulusi Akar has shared a statement about the danger of mines in the Bosphorus of Istanbul saying “Information has come that stray mines may be in the area. Our friends are on alert.”
Ukraine had placed naval mines against warships off Odessa, in case of a possible Russian military landing from the sea. Most recently, it was announced that the mines had broken loose as a result of a storm and started drifting in the Black Sea.
Yesterday, the mine detected off the Bosphorus of Istanbul was neutralized.
Responding to a question about the threat of mines in the Bosphorus, National Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said: ”We have received conflicting information about this. We’ve received information that stray mines may be in the area. Our friends are on high alert. They’re all on duty, including our minesweepers. There was a report from a merchant ship that such an object had been seen. An SAS team was sent to the area. The object was examined. They found that the object was an old mine, our investigation is still continuing. The mine was destroyed at a safe zone. There are currently no negativities in the Bosphorus. ”
