A draft bill for the deployment of Turkish military units in Qatar and co-operation in the field of education and training of gendarmerie units were approved by Turkey’s parliament on June 7th, 2017. The move was evaluated as a sign of support for the Gulf country currently facing big diplomatic conflict and isolation in the region.

Ruling Ak Party brought to the parliament the proposal of discussion about the international agreements previously signed with Qatar.

It was reminded that the “Cooperation protocol between the Government of the Republic of Turkey and the Government of the Republic of Qatar for the Training and Education of the Gendarmerie” was signed in Doha on December 2nd 2016.

It was also noted that with the protocol prepared with the aim of determining the principle and scope of the business association to be established between the General Command of the Turkish Republic Gendarmerie and the Qatar National Domestic Security Forces, the tasks and responsibilities of the parties regarding the planning, coordination and implementation of the training activities were defined.

Qatar is facing diplomatic and trade isolation by the biggest Middle Eastern countries, obviously supported by the USA, as well.
