Turkish Airlines has resumed flights to Tripoli, the capital of Libya, operating from Istanbul’s Mitiga International Airport. Turkish Airlines halted its flights to Tripoli following the chaos and subsequent conflicts after the NATO-backed coup against Muammar Gaddafi’s regime in 2015. After a hiatus of over 9 years, Turkish Airlines has resumed flights to the city.

Expressing the happiness of restarting flights to Libya, Bilal Ekşi, the General Manager of Turkish Airlines, stated that they would continue to connect Africa with cultures. Ekşi said, “As Turkish Airlines, we feel the excitement of connecting continents, this time in the capital of Libya, Tripoli. We are delighted to restart flights to Libya, with which we have historical ties. With the growing market and increasing demands, we will continue to connect Africa, as well as many continents, with cultures. We believe that with the evolving and changing industrial investments, the importance of tourism and trade in the African continent will increase in the medium and long term.”

As part of the route opening, Turkish Airlines is offering special prices for tickets purchased between March 23 and May 15, 2024, for travel between March 28 and May 31, 2024. Passengers can travel from Istanbul to Tripoli starting from $379 and from Tripoli to Istanbul starting from $299.

The flag carrier will operate its flights to Tripoli with Boeing B737-78D aircraft three days a week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays.
