ATATÜRK AIRPORT AFTER THE ATTACK BY ISIS

The terror attack causing 45 loss of 45 lives and many severely injured people on June 28th 2016, has been a bitter experience for Turkey again – like other recent terror acts.

It is now reported that the security measures have been improved at the int’l airport and as part of strict measures taken concrete barriers were placed on roads leading to domestic and int’l flights terminals. The authority responsible for the security of the airport had heavy concrete barriers brought to the area with trucks after which said barriers were erected using lifting cranes.

Unluckily it is now clear that Turkey is top of the list among the major targets for ISIS after several attacks in 2016 and many people believe they have the right to forward the question “why were security measures not upgraded much earlier so that many lives could have been saved?”.

Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) militants stormed its terminals, shooting at people with Kalashnikovs and later blowing themselves up.

Among other measure to prevent further terror acts at similar places following were put into effect;

TAV which is the company in charge of operating Istanbul’s airports has armed all its security personnel with MP-5 type automatic guns. It is reported that said personnel are also to conduct patrols inside the airport.

On the other hand Istanbul police have dispatched armed special operations and riot police teams to the airport, for a round the clock shift and additionally increased the number of patrols

Moreover, risk analysis and suspect profile evaluation issues are to be given more consideration to prevent further attacks.
