Turkish Court rules in “retired admirals case”: Unanimous acquittal

The verdict came out in the case of the “Montreux declaration of the admirals”. A unanimous acquittal was given for all the defendants on the grounds that the elements of the crime had not been formed.

The verdict came out in the trial of 103 retired admirals who were sued for publishing a statement known as the “Montreux Declaration” or the “Retired Admirals Declaration”, which called for “not allowing the formation of sects in the Turkish Armed Forces”.

During the hearing at an Ankara Criminal Court, the defendants and their lawyers made their final defense against the opinion on the merits.

A unanimous acquittal was given for all the defendants on the grounds that the elements of the crime were not formed.
