ZAPORIZHIYA NUCLEAR POWER PLANT

A United Nations (UN) expert delegation has left for the power plant to assess the situation at the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant. Experts drew attention to the danger because the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant, which is under the occupation of Russia in Ukraine, became the target of artillery fire from time to time. Experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which is part of the UN, also set out for investigations for this reason.

According to DW Turkish news, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, who heads the review delegation, said that the main work would begin tomorrow, explaining the challenges ahead: “This is a mission aimed at preventing a nuclear accident and protecting Europe’s largest nuclear power plant.”

Grossi said that after a few days of examination, they would be able to get a comprehensive idea of the situation, noting that Russia had also given him guarantees to ensure that the 14 expert delegations do their job.

The IAEA team will examine whether the nuclear power plant was damaged in shelling in the area and the working conditions of Ukrainian personnel at the facility.
