Tsai, the leader of Taiwan, which is in a sovereignty dispute with China, had made informal visits to the United States. The United States called for “sobriety” to China, which has increased its military exercises around the island of Taiwan.

A senior US State Department official said Beijing’s movements around the Island are being “closely monitored” after China launched joint military exercises involving land, air and naval forces around Taiwan Island following Taiwanese leader Tsai Ing-wen’s visits to Central America and the United States.

The senior official stressed that the United States “constantly called on China to maintain the status quo and sobriety,” and USA “had sufficient resources and capabilities to ensure peace and stability and fulfill national security commitments.”

The Eastern Front Command of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PRC) reported that a military exercise called “Joint Sword” was launched around the Island yesterday, and with this exercise, “the Chinese armed forces aimed to simultaneously surround the island and take control of the sea, air and information, putting it under pressure from all sides.”
