TURKSTAT publishes migration statistics: Migration to Turkey increases by 117 percent in 2021

TURKSTAT has published the 2020 and 2021 migration statistics after 2years. immigration from abroad decreased by 49.7 percent in 2020 compared to the previous year, and increased by 116.9 percent compared to the previous year in 2021 to 739 thousand 364 people.

According to this, the number of immigrants from abroad to Turkey decreased by 49.7 percent in 2020 compared to the previous year and became 340 thousand 845 people. Males constituted 53.6% of the migrant population and females 46.4%. It was observed that 98 thousand 349 of the population coming from abroad were Turkish citizens and 242 thousand 496 of them were foreign nationals.

INCREASE IN MIGRATION ABROAD

The number of people migrating from Turkey to abroad increased by 27.3 percent in 2020, compared to the previous year and became 420 thousand 463. Males constituted 55.9% of the migrant population and females 44.1%. 77 Thousand 810 of the population who went abroad from Turkey were registered as Turkish citizens and 342 thousand 653 of them were registered as foreign citizens.

ISTANBUL RECEIVED THE HIGHEST NUMBER OF MIGRATION

When the distribution of immigrants to Turkey in 2020 according to the provinces was examined, Istanbul became the province that received the most migration with 34.1 percent. This province was followed by Ankara and Antalya with 8.3 percent, Bursa with 3.2 percent and Izmir with 2.8 percent. When the distribution of the population immigrating from Turkey according to the provinces was examined, it was seen that Istanbul was the province that gave the highest number of immigrants with 47.6 percent. This province was followed by Ankara with 9.5 percent, Antalya with 6.6 percent, Izmir with 2.8 percent and Gümüşhane with 2.7 percent.

During this period, Iraqi citizens took the first place among the foreign national population coming to Turkey with 11.9 percent. This country was followed by citizens of Afghanistan with 9.4 percent, Turkmenistan with 7.4 percent, Russia with 6.3 percent and Syria with 6 percent. Iraqi citizens again took the first place among the foreign national population emigrating from the country with 16.8 percent. Iraqi citizens were followed by Turkmenistan with 11.6 percent, Iran with 8.9 percent, Azerbaijan with 6.5 percent and Syria with 5.4 percent.

2021 DATA

According to the 2021 data, the number of immigrants from abroad to Turkey increased by 116.9 percent compared to the previous year and became 739 thousand 364 people in 2021. Males constituted 51.9% of the migrant population and females 48.1%. 124 thousand 269 of the population coming from abroad were Turkish citizens and 615 thousand 95 of them were foreign nationals.
