USA DEPLOYS EQUIPMENT AT DEDEAGAC GREECE

It has been stated that the United States which has a defense agreement with Greece, will transport 120 attack helicopters and a thousand new military vehicles to the Port of Alexandroupoli (Dedeağaç)

After a 5-year defense agreement with Greece, the United States has stepped up its efforts to increase its military presence in the Western Thrace region. It was reported that the United States would transport 120 attack helicopters and a thousand new military vehicles to the Port of Alexandroupoli in the middle of this month.

According to reports in leading Greek publications, the US military will welcome new military vehicles and about 3 thousand personnel, the US Ambassador to Athens Jeffrey Pyatt and the Chief of the General Staff of Greece, General Konstantinos Floros, it was said.

ALEXANDROUPOLIS PORT CHOSEN AS BASE AREA

Pyatt, the US Ambassador who conducted inspections at the Port of Alexandroupoli and visited the US base, said in a statement that after the agreement between Greece and the United States, the largest military equipment in history would be transported to the Port of Alexandroupoli and the base area. According to SOZCU newspaper, Pyatt said this operation would be accomplished in mid-November.

Pyatt also said, “Some of the military vehicles and personnel disembarked here will remain in Western Thrace, while some will be shipped by train and trucks to Bulgaria, Romania and other European countries. The straits are now decommissioned due to the fact that Bulgaria and Romania have a railway connection with Alexandroupolis. Some of the previous military equipment that came here was again transported to countries in Europe. In accordance with the rules of the defense agreement, we are rapidly developing our military cooperation with Greece.”

HUNDREDS OF MILITARY VEHICLES HAD BEEN DOWNLOADED

About a month ago, the USNS Yuma, the famous catamaran transport submarine with a payload of 600 tons, in which 312 soldiers served in the US army, had landed dozens of helicopters, tanks and armored vehicles in the Port of Alexandroupoli. Some of the vehicles here were transported by road and rail to Bulgaria, Romania, Kosovo and Hungary.
