Vladimir Putin Announces Candidacy for the 2024 Elections
Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced his candidacy for the presidential elections scheduled for 2024. If re-elected, Putin will extend his term in office until the year 2030.
Following a ceremony at the Kremlin, Russian President Vladimir Putin met with soldiers, and in response to a question from one of the soldiers about his candidacy in the presidential elections, Putin stated, “I won’t hide it. There were different thoughts at different times, but now we need to make a decision at such a time. I will run for the Presidency of the Russian Federation.”
The upcoming elections will also be the first time that residents of Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions, annexed by Russia during the conflict in Ukraine, will participate in voting.
The international community had previously condemned local elections organized by Russia-backed authorities in these regions, labeling them as fraudulent.
