Weather in Turkey: Strong southwest wind strikes badly, roofs fly, giant waves hit the shores

STORM IN ISTANBUL

Due to the powerful southwest wind (lodos) and rainfall in some areas, roofs were blown away, trees were toppled, and wind-blown trees caused damage to some vehicles. Even walking became difficult in the wind, and giant waves formed along the coastline.

Following days of warnings from the Meteorology, the storm intensified in Istanbul, causing the roofs of some buildings to be blown away, and giant waves to pound the shores. Those attempting to reach Taksim Square struggled to walk due to the storm, while in Kadıköy / Caddebostan coastal area, giant waves formed in the sea.

In Küçükçekmece’s Menekşe coastal area, waves carried seaweed and rocks onto the coastal road, making it challenging for vehicles to move forward on the road.

DIFFICULTY IN WALKING

Those going to Taksim Square experienced challenging moments. Citizens, wet from the rain, walked with difficulty in the storm.

STORM IN SILIVRI DAMAGES BEACHFRONT RESTAURANTS

The storm that struck early in the morning in Silivri adversely affected life. After waves rose meters high in the sea, businesses on the beachfront were flooded. Trees were toppled due to the storm, and damaged fishing boats were pulled ashore.

FLYING ROOFS POSED DANGER

In Istanbul, sheets from the roofs of two buildings flew off and fell onto the street. Fallen pieces caused material damage to some parked vehicles.

In Ankara, a tree fell onto a parked luxury car. The fallen tree was cut and removed from the car by municipal teams. The car suffered damage.

Lodos (south west wind), which started in the morning in Bursa, negatively affected life. In Denizli, broken branches of a tree fell onto power lines and parked vehicles, causing damage to two cars. There was a power outage in the region.
