Powerful storm in Izmir: Sea overflows, streets turn into rivers

Following the strong rainfall and storm warning issued by the General Directorate of Meteorology, the storm intensified in Izmir in the evening. Due to the heavy rainfall and storm, the sea overflowed, turning roads into lakes, and merging with the seaside promenade. Musicians stranded in an entertainment venue were rescued by boat.

The downpour and storm, which affected many cities across the country, also adversely affected life in Izmir. The rain, continuing throughout the day in the city, intensified in the late hours of the night. With the onset of the storm, the sea overflowed in Mavişehir Neighborhood and Aksoy Neighborhood in the Karşıyaka district.

The gardens of coastal residences were filled with water, and streets and avenues were submerged. After the strong winds, Cemal Gürsel Coastal Road in Karşıyaka was completely submerged in water.

While many areas were flooded, it was observed that the sea water reached the back streets. Kordon Boyu (seaside promenade) was completely underwater, and many businesses and apartments were flooded.

Kıbrıs Şehitleri (Cyprus Martyrs) and Talatpaşa Boulevard were also filled with seawater, and there were power outages in the area. Musicians who were unable to leave the flooded entertainment venue called for help from the fire department. Firefighter teams dispatched to the scene rescued the musicians with inflatable boats.
