The Constitutional Court (AYM) will consider the request for the annulment and suspension of the implementation of the “censorship law” which prescribes imprisonment for “publicly disseminating misleading information” on November 8.

After the law, referred to as the “disinformation combat law” prepared by the AKP and MHP but labeled as the censorship law by journalism professional organizations, was published in the Official Gazette and entered into force, the CHP applied to the Constitutional Court for the annulment of its 29th article.

29th ARTICLE CONTAINS FOLLOWING STATEMENTS

The 29th article contains the following statements: “Anyone who publicly disseminates false information that is likely to disrupt public peace concerning the country’s internal and external security, public order, and public health with the intent to create fear, panic, or anxiety among the public shall be sentenced to imprisonment for a period of one to three years.”

The CHP had applied to the Constitutional Court for the annulment of the article and the suspension of its implementation.

The Constitutional Court will consider the annulment request in its General Assembly agenda on November 8. The request for the suspension of the regulation’s implementation will also be discussed during the substantive examination stage.
