The decision to reduce the VAT rate on food products from 8 percent to 1 percent was published in the Official Gazette. The discounted products that will be valid starting Feb 14, include basic food products such as sugar, water, olives, oil and honey, and many other foods.

Yesterday, President Tayyip Erdogan announced that VAT on basic food products, which was 8 percent, had been reduced to 1 percent. ”This means a 7 percent discount on food products,” Erdogan said adding “We expect the same sacrifice from the food sector.”

The VAT rate has been reduced from 8 percent to 1 percent of the following foodstuffs:

Cattle and small cattle, pigs, poultry, fish, eggs, honey, intestine, seedlings of various vegetables, vegetables and some roots and tubers, eaten fruits and berries with a hard shell eaten, coffee, tea, spices, Paraguayan tea, grain, milling products, malt, starch, inulin, wheat gluten, vegetable fruit seeds, mint, cane sugar, cottonseed, oilseed and flour of fruits, animal and vegetable oils, meat, fish, crustaceans, sugar and sugar products, cocoa and its preparations, cereals, flour, starch or dairy preparations, confectionery products, preparations from vegetables, fruits, hard-shelled fruits and other parts of plants, various edible food preparations, water and soda, olive pulp, salt
