Who is Mansur Yavaş? A brief article about beloved mayor of Ankara Municipality

Mansur Yavaş (born 23 May 1955 in Ankara) is a Turkish lawyer, politician and Mayor of Ankara, the capital of Turkey.

He started his undergraduate studies at Istanbul University Faculty of law in 1979 and completed his undergraduate studies in 1983. After his military service as a military prosecutor, Yavaş worked as a freelance lawyer in Beypazarı (Ankara) for 13 years.

Between 1999 and 2009, he served as mayor of Beypazarı, where he achieved great success and introduced many new practices to make the town popular in a short time.

He was also a candidate for mayor of Ankara Metropolitan Municipality in the 2009, 2014 and 2019 local elections and was eventually elected mayor of Ankara Metropolitan Municipality from the Republican People’s Party in the 2019 local elections – despite major support provided by the AK Party government for his opponent.

As mayor of Ankara, he has achieved great success and gained the love of almost all citizens, despite various blocking efforts of the central AK Party government. His sincere efforts to meet all the needs of the people without regard to party discrimination, have played a major role in this achievement.

According to the results of the polls conducted in 2020 and 2021, he is seen as the most likely candidate to challenge the current president and be elected, in the first presidential election to come. Moreover he is considered to be a great hope for tens of millions of citizens.
