The article went on to say, “Turks have begun voting for one of the most important elections in the 100-year history of modern Turkey, an election that could remove President Recep Tayyip Erdogan from office after 20 years in power, halting the increasingly authoritarian progress of his government.”

The Guardian also noted that the Nation Alliance, led by Kemal Kilicdaroglu, was leading in the polls, but the base was extremely loyal to Erdogan.

The British public broadcaster BBC announced from Ankara and Hatay that the election process had started. It said “Turks are voting in the most important elections in their modern history to decide whether Recep Tayyip Erdogan will remain president after 20 years in power”, using the headline “Turkey is deciding its future with or without Erdogan.”

Al Jazeera, which shared the election process with live updates, appeared in front of its readers with the headline “Voting has started in a tight race”. Noting that 64 million voters went to the polls to elect the president and deputies for a five-year term, it said, “President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is facing the biggest political test of his two decades in power.”

Using the headline “destiny choice in Turkey”, the German Bild newspaper combined the English word “END” with the word “Erdogan” and asked “Is ENDOGAN today?” Bild, which used “hated and loved” words for Erdogan, shared the following statements about him: “Recep Tayyip Erdogan ruled Turkey as prime minister from 2003 to 2018 and as president since 2018. He transformed himself from a bearer of hope for reforms into an autocrat and had opposition figures and inappropriate journalists jailed. He also did not avoid election tricks”

Announcing the start of the election process in Turkey, the German newspaper Die Zeit said, “61 million Turks are preparing to decide the political future of their country. Recep Tayyip Erdogan is in danger of being dismissed after 20 years in power.”
