Why is the code for Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport SAW?
These are IATA codes specified for every airport.
SA is for Sabiha Gökçen and W is only a fill code, a third letter required.
Obviously, codes such as SAG or SGA etc was taken by other airports before Sabiha Gökçen and only a few letters were available as the third letter from among which W was chosen by SABIHA GÖKÇEN.
That is the whole story. 🙂
