Will Turkey’s administration decide to have a partial or a full shutdown?
Eyes are on today’s cabinet meeting… A decision on whether to continue the two-week partial shutdown, which began on April 14, or switch to a full shutdown, will be made this evening. Two officials who spoke to Reuters said closing schools and shopping malls was on the agenda. “From the point of view of ministers, there are those who advocate and oppose a full closure. Erdogan will make the final decision.”
As case numbers remain far from approaching the desired levels despite measures taken against the Corona virus, officials said a full shutdown until after Eid al-Fitr will be discussed at a cabinet meeting chaired by President Tayyip Erdogan today, not to affect production in the economy, either.
TWO WEEKS AGO MEASURES WERE TIGHTENED FOR 2 WEEKS
After the increase in the number of cases did not stop, it was announced at a cabinet meeting two weeks ago that the measures were tightened for 15 days, while stricter measures could be raised if the expected result was not achieved.
Officials who provided information to Reuters said the number of cases in the two-week practice had fallen to 38 thousand 553 as of yesterday, after rising to over 60 thousand and the number of deaths had increased to more than 300 and noted that new measures would be needed.
