Zeugma Mosaic Museum which is one of the largest mosaic museums in the world, hosted 211 thousand people during the first 8 months of the year, setting a visitor record. Experts say the announcement of 2019 as “GOBEKLITEPE year” also had a positive impact on this growth of interest.

According to the information compiled from the data of the Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism, Zeugma Mosaic Museum which was officially opened on 9 September 2011 enjoys the growing attention of local and foreign visitors. The museum is located on an area of 30 thousand m2 of which 25 thousand m2 is closed.

The museum, which was awarded the “Presidential Culture and Art Grand Prize” earlier, displays the gypsy girl, the statue of mars, pieces brought from the United States, about 150 square meters of murals, Roman fountains and mosaics found in villas near the Euphrates River.

It is reported that the number of visitors to the museum, which soon became a symbol of the city, has been increasing regularly. The museum was visited by 164 thousand 138 people in the 8-month period of the year before and hosted a total of 267 thousand visitors throughout the year.

As of August 2019, the Zeugma Mosaic Museum opened its doors to 211 thousand 332 local and foreign tourists and set a visitor record based on its 8-month performance of the past years.

Experts also note when the weather turns cooler in September in the southeastern Anatolia region the intensity of Tourism and visits to the Zeugma Mosaic Museum increase. The good news is the region had a golden year in tourism thanks to the announcement of 2019 as the year of GOBEKLITEPE. Gaziantep is the locomotive of the region in terms of tourism (as well as industry) and aims to get a larger share of the pie with a target of 1 million visitors in 2020.
