A 925 Million TL Cruise Port Coming to Fethiye
The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure has officially begun the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process for a brand-new cruise port planned for Fethiye’s Babataşı area. The project is expected to reach an annual passenger capacity of 250,000 by 2043, marking a major step for regional tourism and maritime traffic.
A Major Government-Backed Investment
The General Directorate of Infrastructure Investments announced that the Fethiye Cruise Port will be built on the seaward side of the coastal boundary in Babataşı, Muğla.
The project carries a total investment value of 925,658,000 TL and will be fully financed by the investing institution. The port’s economic lifespan has been calculated as 50 years, underscoring the long-term vision behind the development.
Not Connected to the 2010 Municipal Project
Although a separate cruise port initiative was explored by Fethiye Municipality back in 2010, officials underline that the new ministry-driven project has no relation to that earlier plan.
The two projects differ entirely in terms of scope, technical specifications, and location.
A Dual-Berthing Pier Designed for Large Vessels
According to the planned design, the port will feature a 355-meter-long, 50-meter-wide pier, capable of allowing cruise ships to dock on both sides.
A 136-meter service area, also 50 meters wide, will support port operations.
In total, the port will cover 27,588 square meters.
Passenger Growth Targets: 120,000 by 2030, 250,000 by 2043
Based on projections from the Ministry of Transport, the Fethiye Cruise Port is expected to serve 120,000 passengers and 100 cruise ships annually by 2030. With an estimated yearly increase of 10 ships and 10,000 passengers, capacity is projected to rise to 250,000 passengers and 230 ships by 2043.
Construction to Finish in Two Years
The combined preparation and construction phase is planned to take two years.
Workforce projections show 65 personnel in the first year and 155 in the second year. Once in operation, the port is expected to employ 35 staff members.
