The European Union (EU) and Ukraine claimed that Russia was behind the leak in the Nord Stream 1 pipeline, while the Moscow administration blamed the United States. A gas leak was announced on the Nord Stream 1 pipeline from Russia to Europe, which is dangerous for maritime traffic. German security agencies worried that both branches of the pipeline were permanently unusable, while both sides claimed that the leak was sabotage.

According to Euronews in Turkish, EU High Representative for Foreign relations Josep Borrell accused Russia by saying “According to the EU, these leaks are not a coincidence, but rather the result of a deliberate act” and without giving names.

Borrell, who said that all the information they had showed this, added that there were indications that the leaks had been intentionally caused.

In a statement on the issue, the Ukrainian government also argued that Russia was behind the explosions as a ‘planned terrorist attack’ against the European Union.

RUSSIA BLAMES THE US

Russia denied the accusations, recalling the statement of US President Joe Biden. According to DW Turkish, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zaharova said that they were waiting for an explanation from the United States referring to the remarks about Nord Stream 2 at a press conference held after US President Biden’s meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on February 7.

Biden had said in a video on social media, “If Russia invades Ukraine, that is, if Russian tanks and troops enter through the Ukrainian border, there will no longer be Nord Stream 2, we will end it,” and a journalist said, “So how exactly will you do this? After all, the project is under the control of Germany” he answered the question, “I promise, we can do this.”
