Announcement from ministry: “There have been no cases of monkey pox in Turkey”

The General Directorate of Public Health of the Ministry of Health has reported that there have been no cases of monkey pox in Turkey so far. The general directorate’s statement said that monkey pox (monkeypox) is a zoonotic disease caused by wild animals such as rodents and primates, sometimes transmitted to humans.

The statement said it was caused by the monkey pox virus, which belonged to the ‘orthopoxvirus’ family.

It has been noted that most human cases occur in Central and West Africa, where the disease is endemic, the disease can be transmitted by droplet exposure through contact and inhaled large droplets.

The statement said: “The disease is usually self-limiting, and the symptoms usually resolve on their own within 14 to 21 days. Monkeypox disease-related developments are followed closely by the General Directorate of Public Health, Contagious Diseases and Early Warning Department. To date, there have been no cases in our country.”
