Conductor of the choir, Yılmaz Özfırat said to journalists before the concert that people of different religions also lived together in Diyarbakır.

He went on to say, “We are at home, because Diyarbakır is actually the reality of Turkey today. We are in a city where people of different religions, different languages live together, in a friendly, brotherly manner. We also come from such a city. Unfortunately, after the earthquake, we lost our friends, spouses, loved ones, our belongings. However, the beautiful face of Turkey, the face of unity, brought us here today”. He also noted that said concert was very special and touched people in some way.

WE SHOWED THE WORLD HOW A COUNTRY COULD BE UNITED

Özfırat expressed that they tried to heal wounds by making the “music of pain.”

He also said “We believe that very beautiful things will happen when everyone in this country embraces each other tightly. The earthquake showed us how we heal our wounds. Kurds, Laz, Turks, Circassians, everyone rushed to help each other. Perhaps this was the most important thing. We showed the world how a country is united. I think we will learn great lessons from this calamity,”

He added that they had come tonight to heal these wounds with the music of the Civilizations Choir.
