Attorney general of Supreme Court makes statement about closure of HDP

Bekir Sahin, Chief Prosecutor of the Supreme Court who gave information about the process related to the case filed with the request for closure of the HDP, said: “451 people are being asked for a political ban.

He went on to say “All 69 people are indicted for speaking out in favor of a terrorist organization as party members. In addition, measures were requested to be placed on the HDP’s bank accounts. A decision is expected from the Constitutional Court in 15 days.”

Closure of HDP (Halkların Demokratik Partisi / Peoples’ Democratic Party) has been on the agenda of Turkey for quite a while after initiatives started by MHP leader Bahceli, in particular.  It has also been an issue of debate between opposition and Republican Alliance.
