Difficult days of ruling AK Party at a time to cope with the deadly epidemic, as well

As Turkey goes through an increasingly troubled period in the fields of economy and politics at the moment, it does not look very clear what the government wants to do from the point of reasoning and logic. We are talking about an economy that does not look very promising at all due to rising inflation and foreign exchange rates, a legal system in which justice is not applied fairly, increasing unemployment are factors that cause the ruling party to experience real difficult times… There is no doubt that the vast majority of citizens have to cope with results of said difficulties too.

On the other hand it is no surprise that the economy and politics are locked together. This being the case, it is easily observed that major mistakes made by the government in the field of economy in recent years in particular as well as practices that have become increasingly harsh as far as freedom of opinion and legal practices are concerned, the Republican (People’s) Alliance seems to be losing a considerable number of votes (based on many surveys recently). So much so that if there were an election today, it would not be a surprise for the ruling alliance (AK Party and MHP) to lose the majority – based on survey results shared by several expert companies.

Interestingly, cracks have started to be heard (and seen) in the Republic (People’s) Alliance lately. It has become quite clear that the AK Party and the MHP are conducting a problematic marriage. To go into some details, Erdogan has managed to remain in office with the support of the MHP which has had about ten percent votes (and even less currently). This means the moment the MHP withdraws its support for the AK Party, Erdogan is bound to lose the majority and consequently his power in Parliament. Since the MHP leader BAHÇELİ (who is a very clever and experienced politician) knows this, he can make Erdogan do almost anything he wants. But again this turns out to be against  the benefit of AK Party severely, because it constantly loses votes. It even seems to have fallen below thirty percent in some recent poll results.

That is exactly why that Erdogan is experiencing the most difficult days of his political life, most likely. The issue is “How could he get rid of the MHP and at what cost?” It’s all about being able to answer this question. Because Erdogan can very clearly predict that if he loses power, he stands very strong chances of being tried – as clearly expressed by many experts in Turkish politics.

To recap, Erdogan’s job is quite difficult now and this time it seems unlikely that he will be able pull the rabbit out of the hat as many experienced politicians and “opinion leaders” comment. (28 Nov 2020)
