After consecutive increases in gasoline and diesel prices, it is claimed that electricity and natural gas will also see price hikes. Olcay AYDILEK, a journalist working for Halk TV has shared important messages about new price hikes on the way.

As the citizens struggle to maintain their livelihoods amidst decreasing purchasing power, price hikes continue to wait in the horizon. The latest news is related to electricity and natural gas. AYDILEK wrote in his column, sharing the possibility of a price increase in the new electricity and natural gas tariff effective from October 1st.

He noted that the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK) and BOTAŞ (Petroleum Pipeline Corporation) would make decisions regarding electricity and natural gas tariffs next week, and announce these price hikes to the public. He said, “According to the sector, both electricity and natural gas require a certain amount of increase in prices. Electricity companies are sending a message that an increase of around 20-30% is necessary for energy management. In Ankara, there are discussions of a ‘double-digit’ increase in natural gas prices as well.’

The relevant part of Aydilek’s article reads as follows: “The issue of raising energy prices is politically weighted, especially during the process of the local elections on March 31, which President Tayyip Erdoğan attaches great importance to. Electricity and natural gas prices directly affect everyone, from households to businesses and industries. It impacts the lives and wallets of millions. Therefore, it is not possible to evaluate energy price hikes independently of political processes. The final decision will be made by President Erdoğan.”

Electricity, natural gas, and fuel prices… We will continue to discuss them extensively, especially during the winter and, more importantly, after the elections.”
