In his assessment of the agricultural sector in 2021, the General President of the Union of Chambers of Agriculture of Turkey (TZOB) noted that many farmers could not perform their normal farming due to hikes in electricity, diesel fuel and fertilizer. He said that access to food will become difficult in 2022, stating that farmers cannot irrigate and apply fertilizers.

In a press release shared in writing today, the President of the Union of Chambers of Agriculture of Turkey (TZOB), explained how 2021 had passed in agriculture and listed his expectations for 2022.

He said “Due to price hikes in electricity, diesel fuel and fertilizers many farmers were not able to perform their usual farming activities. On the other hand many of those who did were not able to apply fertilizers or irrigate.” The President also said, “Our producers who cannot afford these costs will give up production, prices will rise, both our farmers and consumers will suffer, and transportation to food will become difficult, as well”.
