The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) subsidiary companies KİPTAŞ, İGDAŞ, Istanbul İmar AŞ, İSTAÇ, and İSTON; purchased Bulgur Palace in 2021, a highly valuable structure in the city’s historical memory that had been abandoned for years.

Teams from the IMM Heritage Department, under the coordination of KİPTAŞ, meticulously restored the historic building. The historic structure, with its 135-person library, exhibition hall, areas allocated for student clubs, restaurant, multipurpose event spaces, and a panoramic terrace with a unique view of Istanbul, emerged as a new generation living center for all Istanbulites. Thus, the magnificent building located on Kocamustafapaşa Hill in Fatih Aksaray, described as the seventh hill of the city, became the property of Istanbulites once again. The opening of Bulgur Palace took place in the presence of the public, along with the participation of IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu and other political figures.

Dating back to 1912 and thought to bear the signature of Italian architect Giulio Mongeri, Bulgur Palace brought together the visual memory of global social changes with an exhibition for Istanbulites.

In collaboration with the world-renowned photo agency Magnum Photos and IMM, Bulgur Palace opened its doors with Magnum’s 77th-anniversary special exhibition “Magnum İstanbul,” becoming the city’s new attraction center with its cultural and artistic activities alongside its panoramic terrace overlooking the unique Istanbul skyline.

The “Magnum İstanbul” exhibition consists of over 200 works, including those of 70 artists such as Jonas Bendiksen, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Cornell and Robert Capa, Ara Güler, David Seymour, Olivia Arthur, Alex Webb, and others, some of whose works are considered among the most iconic photographs in the world. The photographs of Emin Özmen, who has been a jury member in World Press Photo Multimedia competitions and whose works have been published by world-renowned media outlets such as TIME, New York Times, Washington Post, Der Spiegel, Le Monde, Paris Match, and Newsweek, are also featured in a special section of the “Magnum İstanbul” exhibition.

Except for Mondays, Bulgur Palace can be visited free of charge from 10:00 to 19:00 every day, while its library will remain open until 22:00 every day.
