ISTANBUL RECEIVES LESS TOURISTS LAST YEAR

Istanbul is certainly one of the most fascinating cities in the world with so much to offer visitors. However, it seems that the pandemic has also hit Istanbul badly in terms of number of visitors it has received year-on-year as of January.

Reports show the number of tourists arriving in Istanbul is now down to 334,825 corresponding to a decrease of 67.1 percent on year on year basis. It is also observed that in January, the highest number of tourists have come from the Russian Federation and Iran.

The number of tourists arriving in Istanbul was 334,825, down 67.1 percent year-on-year. In January, the most tourists came from the Russian Federation and Iran. The number of domestic and foreign tourists arriving at accommodation facilities fell by 57 percent. Accommodation facility occupancy fell to 20.2 percent.

In the same period, the total number of tourists coming to Turkey decreased by 71.5 percent year-on-year to 509 thousand 787. Istanbul’s share in Turkey increased to 65.7 percent.
