Meteorology: Cold wave will enter Turkey from the Balkans starting Friday morning

The Turkish State Meteorological Service (MGM) has released its 5-day weather forecast, indicating that a cold wave will enter Turkey from the Balkans starting Friday morning. Although December is just around the corner, many regions in Turkey are still experiencing warm “Indian summer” conditions.

SIGNS OF WINTER BECOMING EVIDENT

As millions of citizens wonder when colder weather will arrive, MGM’s forecast suggests that signs of winter are becoming evident. According to the map, almost all regions of Turkey, except the eastern parts, are expected to see rain, with temperatures expected to drop suddenly by 4-5 degrees. Meteorological sources underline that the effects of the winter season will start to be felt more permanently beginning Friday, with expectations of heavy rainfall.

ISTANBUL COULD SEE FIRST SNOWFALL

Istanbul could see its first snowfall of the year as early as next week. Recently, snowfall has already been observed in higher areas of the Black Sea region and in Uludağ, but this week, it’s expected to turn into heavier snowfall in Turkey’s mountainous regions and ski resorts. Temperatures will begin to fall on Friday and are expected to hit their lowest point around November 19. According to the Global Forecast System reports, Istanbul may experience its first snow of the season in the middle of next week, with early winter conditions anticipated to last until November 24, after which temperatures are expected to return to seasonal norms.
