ASTRA ZENECA VACCINE BLOOD CLOTS

In a written statement to the British press, the UK Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Authority (MHRA) confirmed that 7 people in the UK had died due to a blood clot formed after receiving the AstraZeneca vaccine in light of the latest data.

The authority said 30 of the 18 million people vaccinated between March December 9, 2020 to March 21, 2021 had blood clot side effects, and 7 of them had died.

INVESTIGATIONS ARE ONGOING

Officials from the MHRA said 7 deaths had been rigorously investigated and it was not yet clear whether this was just a coincidence or a genuine side effect of the vaccine. The MHRA, on the other hand, stressed that the benefits of the vaccine outweighed the risk. At the beginning of March, Norway and several other European countries had announced they were suspending or halting the administration of AstraZeneca vaccines following reports of cases of blood clotting.

SAFE STATEMENT FROM EMA AND WHO

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) urged countries to continue their vaccination programmes in a statement reaffirming that the vaccine is safe and effective. The World Health Organization (who) said the benefits of the AstraZeneca vaccine outweighed the risk of side effects.
