Turkey is a country that attracts millions of tourists every year and is also home to tens of thousands of foreigners who have made it their homeland. There are places like Fethiye here, that resemble paradise

Unfortunately, we often come across people who do not appreciate these beauties, and it saddens us. Here is a message from a British friend of ours who lives in Fethiye regarding the issue. We are sharing his message down below, and we will also send the same text to relevant authorities we believe may be interested.

However, sadly, we frequently encounter individuals who fail to recognize the value of these beauties, and it pains us. We recently received a message from a British friend of ours who resides in Fethiye. We are sharing this message verbatim below, and we intend to forward the same message to relevant authorities we believe might be interested.

Message from our foreign friend living in Fethiye

“We used to go to Green Valley all the time. This summer, we had the chance to go only once. When we got there, the sight we saw shocked me. The middle section was blocked with heaps of stones, and a table was set up on top of it. A group of people was having a meal at the table. Curious, I asked the owner of the establishment.

“Why did you do this? Why did you block the flowing water and the beauty like this?” I said.
He replied, “Isn’t it beautiful? We added another table, look at how nicely people are sitting and eating.”

I looked at him in disbelief. The first thing that came to my mind was that next year, they would probably add more poles and set up another tent there. Because it’s also a camping site, and they rent it out. But there were already small tables in the flowing water, and people could order food and eat there. Blocking the water with stone heaps was absurd.

It seemed like they did it just to make extra money from one more table. The natural beauty was ruined. Anyone who knows the place knows how wonderful it was to walk and sit in that water, listening to the sound of the flowing stream. But now, there’s not much left of that beauty… Unfortunately.”

The message continues as follows: “I can’t say anything if what the owner did was legal, but it was certainly wrong in any case. Does owning the establishment give them the right to disrupt the flow of nature? Moreover, there are so many tables and chairs there already. I really don’t know why they needed to block the water just for one more table. I don’t know how their conscience allowed them to do this. I don’t know how they didn’t feel sorry while doing it.”

Well, this gentleman has already applied to the Fethiye Municipality to have something done about this bad conduct, unjust use of nature – which belongs to all of us and our children to be most important. However, he has not been able to see a noteworthy support from said authority, although the licence to run a “tea-garden like place” at the spot was granted by the municipality.

In fact, the Municipality informed that they were not authorized to implement any enforcement to protect the nature and this should be within the authority of National Parks Directorate etc. So the ball goes from one court to the other really and God knows who is actually responsible to protect the nature and stop these merciless people damaging the beautiful nature, gift of God to us all.

To recap, our foreign friend is still waiting for a satisfactory answer from the Municipality as to what can and should be done to stop these people ruining the nature. On the other hand another application to National Parks authority is on the way as expressed by our friend.

We’ll all see if anything at all will be done to ensure justice eventually prevails.
