New Regulation from Ministry of Agriculture: Ban on Lemon Juice and Pomegranate Molasses Products

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has taken an important step to ensure that consumers have access to healthier and more reliable products in the food sector. With the new regulation, the sale of products that give the impression of fresh lemon juice but do not contain lemon has been banned. This regulation will be implemented across all 81 provinces in Turkey.
Ban on Lemon Juice and Lemon-Flavored Products
According to the new regulation, products sold as “lemon-flavored” or with similar terms, but which do not actually contain lemon juice, will be removed from the shelves. Selling these products as if they are fresh lemon juice will be considered misleading, and their market supply will be prohibited. The goal is to create a more transparent approach to food labeling and ensure consumers have access to accurate products.
Changes in the Turkish Food Codex
The Ministry has made additions to the Turkish Food Codex Regulation to ensure that product contents are more accurately labeled. This change will enable the correct listing of ingredients in products and allow consumers to make informed choices.
New Regulation for Pomegranate Molasses Products
This regulation, which goes beyond just lemon juice, also introduces similar rules for pomegranate molasses products. From now on, the sale of pomegranate molasses products that do not contain pomegranate juice or concentrate, but instead contain other substances, will be banned. This decision aims to present the content of pomegranate molasses more clearly to consumers.
Objective: Food Safety and Transparency
With these regulations, the Ministry aims to increase food safety and prevent consumer deception. The new regulation will ensure that consumers can make healthier, more reliable choices based on accurate information about the products they purchase.
