New statement from USA regarding Kavala statement by 10 ambassadors in Turkey

NED PRICE MESSAGE 10 AMBASSADORS STATEMENT

U.S. State Department Spokesman Ned Price said that President Erdogan’s statement to the ambassadors of 10 countries saying “No one who does not respect the independence of our country can take shelter in this country,” was noted.

In compliance with article 41 of the “Vienna Convention”

Price also noted that the statement made about Osman Kavala on October 18 was in compliance with article 41 of the “Vienna Convention”

Ned Price also shared following; “As the United States, we are looking for cooperation on common priorities with Turkey. We will continue to have a dialogue to resolve any disputes.”

What had happened earlier?

Only a few days ago 10 ambassadors had made a statement addressing Turkish government to draw attention the Osman Kavala case and remind the decisions made by European Court of Human Rights, in regards. Thereafter, President Erdogan had reacted very strongly and said he had given instructions to declare said ambassadors persona non grata. Following this approach some countries had made another statement referring to article 41 of the Vienna Convention which was welcome by Turkish authorities and interpreted as “Concerned countries have taken a step back”.
