The Finnish Parliament has accepted the government’s proposal to apply for NATO membership. In the voting, 188 deputies said ‘yes’ to NATO membership and eight deputies said ‘no’.

Finland will apply for NATO membership together with Sweden, tomorrow.

Finland and Sweden had decided to apply to NATO by ending Russia’s policy of military neutrality after the invasion of Ukraine. Turkey, like the other 30 countries in NATO, has a veto on the issue.

President Tayyip Erdogan said ”the Nordic countries are like guesthouse for the terrorist organization”, adding they did not have a positive view of the membership of the two countries.
