JULIAN ASSANGE PROTESTS IN SWEDEN

A protest was held in the Swedish capital Stockholm to prevent WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange from being extradited to the United States.

The Julian Assange Support Committee held a demonstration in Segeltorg Square demanding that Assange’s extradition to the United States be stopped and that he be released from the prison where he is serving time in London.

The demonstrators carried banners reading “Freedom for Assange”, “Assange is brave, Snowden is a superhero”, “Journalism is not a crime” and shouted slogans against the United States.

In a press statement on behalf of the group, it was stated that the United States and Britain should be tried as war criminals instead of Assange.

The statement recalled that a criminal court in the UK had decided to extradite Assange to the United States, and this decision had also been signed by the Interior Minister, demanding that the Supreme Court overturn this decision and release Assange.
