Significant improvement in cancer treatment

Scientists in the UK have announced that the results of a new cancer treatment that kills cancerous cells are very promising. A new type of cancer treatment that acts on cancerous cells and kills these cells has shown serious promising results in the first trials on humans.

According to BBC Turkish, scientists from the UK have reported that all the cancerous cells of one cancer patient have disappeared, while the cancerous tumors of others have shrunk. The virus is a weakened form of the herpes virus; this form has also been played on in such a way that it kills tumors.

More long-term and large-scale studies are needed to see if the treatment really gives results. But the BBC’s health editor Michelle Roberts says experts say that even at this stage, if viruses are injected into cancer patients, there may be hope of recovery even for patients with advanced cancer.

The research is being conducted by the Institute of Cancer Research at the Royal Marsden Institution, which is affiliated to the UK’s National Health Service (NHS).

THE RESULTS ARE VERY IMPRESSIVE

The head of the research team is Prof. Kevin Harrington told the BBC that the treatment results were “really very impressive” and noted that he had also cured some advanced cancers:

“In this first step to test the reliability of the treatment, it is very rare to get such positive results at the very beginning of a clinical trial. We have also received positive results in patients whose treatment has now been terminated. I am looking forward to seeing if we will continue to get positive results as the number of patients participating in the study increases.”
